Tree Rubbings: Carey Grammar School

These tree rubbings were made by Year 8 students at Carey Grammar School and were photographed by Max Darby

Year 8 students at Carey Grammar School completed these rubbings taken from tree trunks in 2012. The students were guided by Max Darby and their art teacher Ruth McDonald.

The rubbings were associated  with block prints of leaves which appear in the gallery titled Block Prints of Leaves. Examples of each task were combined by small groups of students to create some larger works.

A great idea and I’d love to see some examples for this website if you have any. Just individual photos emailed to me would be great. I can add a whole gallery of these of you have enough. Cheers and thanks for your comment. Email pics to Max

  5. Students may trace around leaf pattern on a styrofoam plate with a dull pencil or they may draw their own leaf. Students should add veins to their leaves- pressing firmly into Styrofoam with a dull pencil. After tracing or sketching their leaves, should cut the leaves out.. Next, students will color with markers all over their leaf and quickly print it on their paper. Then, students will wipe off that color with Handi- Wipes and apply another color.
