Totem Poles: Greensborough Primary School

These photographs were taken by Max Darby in June 2013

The Totem Poles were made by Grade 5/6 students at Greensborough Primary School under the guidance of art teacher Janet Troy. The various shapes and forms on which the designs are painted were constructed using recycled timber and cans. The many pieces were threaded onto bending poles that allow the works to move gently in the wind. The whole project was an important part of a Family Art Day held in November 2012 for all of the students and their families at the school. The intention was to create Art for the school gardens with a focus on re-using and recycling.

The patterns were created using acrylic paints and reflect the wonderful recycled CD mural produced in 2012 which can be seen in some photographs behind the Totem Poles.
