Rowena Martinich: Studio
This file was photographed and prepared by Max Darby in March, 2012
This exhibition of work should be considered with 2 other exhibitions of Rowena’s works on this website titled Rowena Martinich: Viachroma and Rowena Martinich: Subdivisions.
Rowena’s work was photographed at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in the Studio Space where people could observe her at work as well as experience some of her exciting completed works.
Rowena uses fluorescent paints in a drip and run style, combined with a natural transparency which results from her working on clear plastic sheet. Her work reflects the action abstract expressionist works of the 1950’s. The physical process of working, and the gestural and sweeping brush work can be seen in her bold and vibrant colour combinations.
