Fog: The Grampians National Park (Gariwerd)

These photographs were taken by Max Darby in May 2013.

May the 31st was a wet, cloudy and often foggy day in The Grampians (Gariwerd National Park). The scenery in this file provided challenges to capture. One issue was the heat rings that appeared through the fog giving images a pink tone in some areas.

Lake Bellfield which is between Hall’s Gap and Dunkeld is the waterway shown in some images.

Painting such scenes would require a reduced palette and sensitive changes in tones of soft blues, deep greens and variations of white and creams.

Students could try taking photos themselves in a foggy atmosphere.
