Artist Studio Sites

Artist Studio Sites

The following list of studio sites that students can visit is currently being developed and is obviously not yet extensive. It was commenced by Max Darby in December 2009

The list should be cross-referenced to the checklist for students and schools titled Visiting an Artist’s Studio. It provides advice and information concerning visiting an artist’s studio.

Studios in Australia that are specifically organized for students and visitors include those of –

Brett Whiteley (Raper St, Surry Hills, NSW)

Arthur Boyd (Bundanon Properties on the Shoalhaven River, NSW)

Lindsay Gordon (Lower Blue mountains, NSW)

Hans Heyson (South Australia)

Pro Hart (Broken Hill).

Carl Duldig. One of Australia’s first Modernist artists. Burke Road, East Malvern, Vic.) Appointment required.

John and Sunday Reid’s home at Heidi in Bulleen, Victoria, can be visited to see where a number of artists including Nolan, Tucker and Hester worked for a while.

Of special interest is that one of the author’s text books Art Studies, is in Brett Whiteley’s small collection in his Studio (see below).

The author has also visited the home and studio of Frieda Kahlo in Mexico City; the working studio and amazing gallery of Ancient Mexican Sculptures donated to the Mexican people by Diego Rivera, and the wonderful house, studio and garden of Monet at Giverny, France. Frank Lloyd Wright’s working space and studio can be visited in Oak Park, Chicago, USA.

Details about specific locations and addresses can be found on the Internet or you can contact me.

If you have further studio sites that can be added to the list (in Australia and Internationally) please email the details to Dr Max Darby on max@artseducationguru.com
